President’s Message What can I
say about a club that throws a 10th anniversary party like we had on
February 14, 2009! Looking back on
the choice of Valentines Day, I say that it was perfect, a day that signifies
love. This is one of the things that
this club is about – the love and brotherhood I am also proud of the fact that we are
finally considering an “associate member” status for former members ( those
who have left he club for what ever reason) who would like to become active
with the club. Let’s hope
and pray that this club goes forward with as much success as it has achieved.
P.S. – For any
of you who missed the February 14th party, you missed the best
party, by far, that this club has ever thrown. Next time Bryce and Bessie plan a party – be there! Dave ___________________________________________________________ January OutingPelican Point, Half Moon Bay, Ca January’s outing was held at Pelican Point RV
Park, in the city of Half Moon Bay, CA.
Wagon Masters Ken and Cricket Couser arrived early in the afternoon on
Thursday, January 22nd. Scott and
Christy Nyland arrived later that afternoon.
After getting setup, Cricket and I took a quick tour of the town and
had a late lunch at Sam’s Café, plenty of good food and a very reasonable
price. The weather was drizzly and
overcast, but the town and countryside were absolutely beautiful. We got back to the park in time for Scott
and Christy to join us in a short walk to the beach overlook. The sun was just setting and it was a
magnificent sight. On
Friday, the rest of our group, Ken and Yvonne Collins, arrived. They were just in time to set up and then
join Cricket and I for lunch and a tour of Saturday
we all went our separate ways investigating various parts of the surrounding
countryside. We arrived back in camp
in time to prepare our potluck dinner.
Cricket’s stew was a big hit, as was Christy’s salad and Yvonne’s
dessert. We again played Sequence
well into the night, then retired for a well earned rest. On
Sunday we said our goodbyes all too soon.
It was a fun weekend, which we all enjoyed. We would highly recommend Pelican Point for future
outings. Many thanks to Ken, Yvonne,
Scott and Christy for the help and fellowship this weekend. Ken
and Cricket Couser, Wagon Masters ___________________________________________ Return to topFebruary – Outing10th Anniversary Celebration at Far Horizons 49er Village, Plymouth, Bryce & Bessie Smith, Wagon Masters 10 years ago we were just strangers, with nothing in common
but for the love of camping and owning a SunnyBrook trailer. A group of
SunnyBrook owners met for the first time at Pan Pacific Trailer Sales and in
February 1999 Gold Country Travelers was formed. We were just strangers then, but after the first outing we
became friends, now we are like one big family. It is said that when you are having fun, time flies by. That is so true. In February we returned to the 49er Village R.V. Resort in Plymouth to celebrate our 10th anniversary outing. 18 rigs were lined up by Friday, some were charter members, and some were former members and one couple who would join our club on Saturday. They had to brave wind, rain and snow to make the reunion but brave it they did. It was a grand time to talk to former members who we had not seen in a long time and to welcome the new members into our family. On Thursday we had 8 rigs in camp and for an icebreaker, we
went to the Jackson Indian Casino to sample their smorgasbord. It was a 2 for 1 night and the food was
delicious and all you could eat.
Friday night we met at the clubhouse for dinner. Each family brought their own meal with
them to either warm in the microwave oven or cook their meat on the BBO. After dinner there was the
obligatory card game of 31 with only a few people leaving early to get things
ready for Saturday night. On Saturday, the clubhouse was closed at noon so the
Wagon Masters, Bessie and Bryce Smith and a host of volunteers could decorate
the room. Bessie had chosen a black,
white and silver theme and it followed throughout with black & white
dinner settings and matching napkins and silver ware, engraved Gold Country
Travelers wine glasses, crystal water glasses and black and silver table
runners with electric candles.
Balloons were throughout the room, some with lights and Happy
Anniversary on them and a large “Welcome Gold Country Travelers” banner to
greet members and guests as they arrived. Upon entering the room, everyone walked through an arch way of
garland and more balloons. A wine bar
was on hand as well as a roaring fire in the fireplace. During happy hour, appetizers were served
as people mingled and renewed old friendships and started new ones. Dinner was served at 6:30 with three kinds of barbequed
meats and more side dishes than the 60 members and guests could possibly
eat. Two large decorated cakes along
with pie and coffee rounded out the dinner menu. After Grace was said, the lights were dimmed and the tables
shimmering with candle light, we held our wine glasses high to toast a great
evening of friendship. This night
will be long remembered. After dinner over 40 gifts were handed out by Dave, courtesy
of our club sponsor, Jays Trailers and then in honor of Valentines Day,
Bessie gave each lady a single rose and a signed certificate of membership to
all members present. We were greeted Sunday morning to an excellent breakfast courtesy of our members and after a brief meeting; we said our goodbyes until we meet again next month in Bodega Bay.

__________________________________________________Meeting minutes
February 15,
2009 Plymouth, CA President Dave
Lee called the meeting to order at 9:25 AM. A thank you was extended to
Bryce and Bessie for the wonderful party they arranged for our 10th
anniversary. Thanks also went to Janet and Randy Fox, (Bessie's daughter and
son in law) for all of their help. Murl Poynter
talked about an extended trip to Yuma next January or February. Those
interested should contact Murl. Upcoming trips: March 26-28,
Bodega Bay, John and Karen Puthuff, wagon masters. April 24-26.
Woodson Bridge, Greg and Jennifer Leard, wagon masters. May 15-17, Rio
Viento, Jim and Judy McGrew, wagon masters. John Saylor
requested any changes for the 2009 roster. Dave reminded
people to fill in the months of 2010. Dave spoke about the rule concerning former
members who had purchased a different brand of trailer or fifth wheel or a
motor home. He felt that they should now be associate members. A motion
was made by Bryce Smith and seconded by several people. A vote was
taken and the motion passed. Bryce will write the required by-law
change and present it to the club. Dave announced that
Janice Saylor is resigning as secretary and asked members to think about
taking the job. The meeting was
adjourned to take a group picture. Respectfully
submitted, Janice Saylor,
Secretary

tip is a reprint from one that was in the newsletter several years ago. The
running lights on some of our rigs have snap on covers. Some of us have experienced vandals removing
the covers or having them knocked off by bushes and tree limbs. I also lost a couple while washing the
roof when the garden hose caught one and it fell to the ground and broke. Finding an exact replacement can sometimes
be difficult. My solution was to drill the covers to
match the inside mounting holes and remount using longer screws. Now the covers are more difficult to
remove and they will not be accidentally brushed off.
Before
Put it all back together
using longer screws through the cover The cover is now securely
attached and much harder to remove by vandals or get knocked off
accidentally. _________________________________________________________________ |
