Eight members of our club enjoyed a great time at the Mt St Helens RV Park in Castle Rock, WA. The park is located about 45 miles from the Mt St Helens volcano. The weather was great and all got to see the mountain spewing steam and dust. We were treated to an absolutely wonderful stay at the RV Park. The park is owned and operated by friends of Chuck and Arlys Rogers, Russ and Marti Miller. They and the manger Sherry decorated the club room in a Halloween setting so we actually had very little set up to do after arrival. The menu for the potluck dinner was planned to be BBQ spare ribs and chicken breast. While Chuck, Arlys and Arlys’ sister Darlene were on the Alaska cruise, one of the young employees of the park decided to so some salmon fishing. It seems he loves to fish but does not eat the fish. So he decided to provide FRESH salmon for the club. To that end, he brought back a 35 pound and 27 pound salmon on his first try. The second day he brought back one more large salmon in the 25-30 pound class. When we returned to the park after the cruise, we were surprised to find two freezers well filled with fresh salmon filets. Our dinner then was fresh salmon done on the grill by Russ and Chuck with chicken breast for those that did not want salmon. We had a lot of chicken left over as almost everyone had the salmon. In addition to the Mt St Helens trip almost everyone did other sightseeing and visiting in conjunction with this outing. A great time was had by all and the weather really cooperated this time. We thank Russ and Marti and their staff for a very successful outing and the outstanding hospitality at their RV Park. We look forward to going again in the future.
